A new executive order issued by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer states that anyone who spends 15 minutes in close contact with a person exhibiting coronavirus symptoms is expected to self-quarantine for 14 days, or until the symptomatic person receives a negative COVID-19 test result.
Executive Order 2020-166 states: "The principal symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, sore throat, a new uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, new onset of a severe headache and new loss of taste or smell.”
If under this quarantine, the person may not leave their home unless absolutely necessary for food, medical supplies or medical attention. It is suggested to order groceries and other needed items by delivery or curbside pick-up if possible. The quarantined person may go outside for specified activities, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
This is an effort to, under the pressure to return to work, encourage people to stay home when they are ill and consider the health of those they have close contact with.
The executive order excludes health care workers, first responders, corrections officers and child care workers.
