State Rep. Mike Harris | Michigan House Republicans
State Representative Mike Harris, a Republican from Waterford, shared his views following Governor Gretchen Whitmer's State of the State address. In his statement, Harris emphasized the positive changes he attributes to the Republican majority in the Michigan House.
"Michigan is back on its feet now that Republicans have the House majority," Harris stated. He noted that Governor Whitmer is beginning to collaborate across party lines. He highlighted a recent bipartisan agreement aimed at reducing bureaucracy and costs for small businesses, which he believes will help keep businesses open and maintain employment.
Harris also mentioned infrastructure improvements, stating, "The governor is also following Republicans’ lead and advocating for a permanent plan to fix our roads." However, he pointed out that there are still differences regarding funding without increasing taxes.
Additionally, Harris appreciated Whitmer's alignment with Republican goals in reducing barriers and costs for housing and business development. "I was also glad to hear the governor echo Republicans," he said, expressing hope for continued cooperation between parties to benefit Michigan's future.
