The Michigan Municipal League has awarded state Representative Mike Harris the 2024 "Legislator of the Year" award. The organization, which represents city, village, and urban township governments in matters of state and federal policy, recognized Harris for his contributions to Michigan communities. Notably, his work on legislation to reimburse local jurisdictions for ambulance services provided to Medicaid recipients was highlighted.

Harris, who has a background in law enforcement spanning 26 years, emphasized the critical role that local government decisions and services play. "Taxpayers rely on our local governments for many of the most essential public services — from running our elections and fixing city streets to protecting our neighborhoods and saving lives in emergencies," stated Harris. He further expressed his commitment to supporting local communities by ensuring they have necessary resources and flexibility.

Additionally, Representative Mike McFall was also honored as a Legislator of the Year by MML. McFall was instrumental in sponsoring the ambulance reimbursement legislation that received bipartisan support.
