State Rep. Andrea Schroeder (R-Independence Township) congratulated local communities for being awarded grants to protect their drinking water.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) awarded Independence Township and Waterford Township a grant to protect their public water supply systems.
Last year, EGLE awarded 39 communities more than $400,000 through the Source Water Protection Grant Program, according to Michigan House Republicans.
“Ensuring our communities can continue to provide safe and clean water is one of my top priorities,” Schroeder told Michigan House Republicans. “Keeping an open dialogue with local officials is extremely important, as it allows us to work together to tap financial or logistical resources available at all levels of government.”
Communities relying on wells will be able to identify potential contaminants to their wells and drinking water and implement strategies to protect the water supply.
“Andrea Schroeder has been a great source of information regarding clean water initiatives and other major legislation changes that will impact our community,” Independence Township Supervisor Patrick Kittle told Michigan House Republicans. “Andrea is tireless in her endeavors to help Independence Township. We appreciate everything she does for us.”
