Rep. Matt Maddock (R-Milford) recently posted to his Facebook page about the ongoing COVID-19 nursing home policies of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, which have now garnered the attention of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Michigan is one of several states that the department is seeking data from, with the common factor being the high number of coronavirus-related deaths in nursing homes in those states, according to reporting by WXYZ Detroit. The other state governors being asked for data are Gov. Phil Murphy of New Jersey (D), Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York (D) and Gov. Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania (D).

A response from Whitmer’s office, reported by WXYZ, alleged that the request for information from four states with some of the highest death rates in the nation -- according to Worldometer, New York and New Jersey have had the highest death rates per million in the world -- is purely an election-year stunt on the part of President Donald Trump’s administration.

The statement for the Michigan House Republicans that was shared by Maddock on his official Facebook page alleges that while New York and other states have rescinded orders that put nursing home residents at increased risk, Whitmer has refused to back down.
