Oakland County issued the following announcement on Jan. 21.
Oakland County Executive David Coulter will appear before the Michigan House of
Representatives Appropriations Committee to speak about the chemical spill from the defunct Electro-Plating Services buildings on 10 Mile Road in Madison Heights.
Coulter’s testimony will focus on the need for this response to be done in a collaborative, regional, and comprehensive manner. One that assures our mutual constituents that above all else we are putting their safety first. He will review additional testing Oakland County would like to see done, the importance of polluter pay laws, and the willingness of the county to work with Madison Heights on the demolition necessary at the site.
“Oakland County stands ready to work with the City of Madison Heights on options for the demolition that must occur before the site can be fully cleaned up,” Coulter said in his testimony.
He will be joined by the county’s Director of Health and Human Services Kathy Forzley. They will be among others testifying before the committee on the contamination, the state’s response, and long-term remediation needs.
