State Rep. Andrea Schroeder (R-Independence Township) recently announced that two projects in Independence Township and Clarkston are part of a proposed funding plan tied to a trust fund program slated to be finalized by the state legislature.
The funding is part of the Natural Resources Trust Fund, which makes recommendations each year to the state legislature for approval and may be used on acquisition or recreational development projects. Funds are generated by mineral development on state land.
Projects recommended by the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund include $2.25 million for the purchase of 76 acres near Walters Lake for recreation development and $50,000 to replace and expand Clarkston Depot Park's walkway system.

"These projects will improve the quality of life in the entire region," Schroeder said in a press release. "I will be working to make sure these Oakland County projects are included in the final plan expected to be funded in 2020.”
