With the hunting season underway in Michigan, State Representative Mike Harris has provided a guide to help hunters with important dates and resources. Harris emphasized the importance of obtaining the correct licenses and understanding regulations before heading out.
"The leaves are turning orange, and many Michiganders are putting on our orange and camo gear to go hunting," said Harris, R-Waterford. "Before heading out, it’s important for everyone to get the right license, know the rules to follow, and find good hunting grounds, and there are so many informative resources that are easily accessible online. With this information, hunters like me will be ready to enjoy Michigan’s natural resources — and hopefully bag some game."
Harris advised hunters to consult state handbooks available at Michigan.gov/DNR/managing-resources/laws/regulations for detailed information on hunting regulations by game type.
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offers a mobile application where hunters can purchase and access their licenses. This app also includes regulation handbooks and other useful tools. It is available for download from Google Play or the Apple App Store via Michigan.gov/DNR/things-to-do/hunting/huntfishmi. The DNR's website also provides crucial details such as maps of public lands designated for hunting activities.
