The City of Troy has issued a "Do Not Occupy" order for the Troy Place Apartments due to safety concerns and uninhabitable conditions. The order was issued on January 18th, 2024, after residents complained about the lack of heat in their apartment units.
According to City Officials, the property owners have been unresponsive to their attempts to resolve the heating issues. As a result, the building was deemed uninhabitable under the standards set forth in the City of Troy's Property Maintenance Code.
The "Do Not Occupy" order was posted at 2873, 2869, 2871, and 2875 Troy Center Drive/Troy Place Apartments under the direction of the City of Troy's Fire Department and Building Official. The order was issued due to the lack of a fully functional heating system, apparent fire suppression frozen pipes, and elevator failure.
In response to the order, City Officials have provided relocation assistance and a list of resources to the affected residents. The safety and well-being of the residents are of utmost importance, and the city is working to ensure that they have access to suitable housing.
"The lack of heat in the Troy Place Apartments is a serious concern and poses a risk to the health and safety of the residents," said a City Official. "We have taken this action to protect the well-being of the residents and to address the violations of the Property Maintenance Code."
Residents of the Troy Place Apartments have expressed their frustration with the situation. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said, "It's been unbearable living without heat in the middle of winter. We've been complaining for weeks, and it's disheartening to see that the property owners haven't taken any action."
The City of Troy is urging anyone with questions or concerns to contact the City Manager's Office or the Building Department. Media inquiries can be directed to the City Manager's Office, while inquiries related to Building and Code Enforcement should be directed to the Building Department.
As the situation unfolds, the City of Troy remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents. Efforts are being made to resolve the heating issues at the Troy Place Apartments and to hold the property owners accountable for the violations.
