A number of students of the month, along with staff members, were recognized by Madison School District officials at the Feb. 6 board meeting.

“So, this evening we are going to do our employees of the month a little differently,” Superintendent Patricia Perry said in the meeting. “Generally, we usually honor school-based staff, but tonight and after that snowstorm last week, I think it's only best that we honor our outside ground staff. And we want to present you guys with the key to the district and we really, truly appreciate you all.”

Lisa DiGiulio, Early Childhood Education Center principal, announced that two second-graders had garnered the award, and Madison Elementary Principal Felecia Hemingway also presented two second-graders. One was noted for his volunteerism and the other was chosen for participating in class.

Crystal, a sixth grade middle school student of the month, was presented by Principal Tiffany Collins, who cited her teacher’s appreciation for her work ethic and willingness to work with others. The other sixth grade student of the month was Damien, who was noted for his upbeat attitude and being a friend to everyone at the school

High school Principal Stacey Cauley recognized their 10th grade students for the month. Denita was the first student honored, and her teachers praised her work ethic and preparation for school. The second student was Asher, who was considered funny, witty and respectful by his teachers.
