Oakland University will host the 2022 #HLXC Championships from the Oakland Cross Country Field on Saturday, October 29.
The Bradley Pink Classic saw the best 6,000-kilometer times the Golden Grizzly women have posted all season with 11 of the top 12 season best times at that distance. Grace Nolan became the only Oakland athlete to break 22:00 with Rachel Kempf knocking on the door at 22:10.9. Peoria was also a good tester for how OU will stack up against Horizon League competition with the Golden Grizzlies the second-best in the race to Milwaukee but ahead of IUPUI, Purdue Fort Wayne, Green Bay, and Northern Kentucky.
Yami Albrecht posted the second-best 8,000-kilometer time by a Golden Grizzly student-athlete ever in the Bradley Pink Classic with a 24:06.3 as the top Horizon League finisher in the event while three other individuals hit season-best marks in the same meet. Oakland was the second-best #HLXC team at the meet behind IUPUI but above Purdue Fort Wayne, Milwaukee, Wright State, Northern Kentucky, and Green Bay in the final standings.
SCOUTING REPORT
This will be the first time since 2017 that Rochester will host the #HLXC Championships in a year where Oakland hosted three regular season meets. This is actually the first time that OU has not hosted a regular season meet (i.e. the Golden Grizzlies Open) in 20 years.
Maryam Sheena and Kempf took away All-League First Team honors in last year's #HLXC Championships with Ellie Voetberg earning Freshman of the Year. The Oakland women finished second out of 12 competing teams while the men came away fifth of 11.
