THE WATERFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES LATERAL HIRING INITIATIVE
Over the past five years the Waterford Police Department has hired thirty-five (35) full-time Police Officers. This has been the result of filling vacancies created by promotions and retirements.
Today we are announcing our new lateral hiring initiative. Beginning Monday June 13th, we will be accepting applications from currently certified Police Officers, as well as those who were previously certified Police Officers and police academy graduates still trying to find the right fit to begin their law enforcement career. Current and former Police Officers will start at the wage step commensurate with their years as a full time police officer.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all currently vacant positions are filled. The hiring process will consist of initial application review and an in-person interview by a three member panel. We expect the process to move quickly and make conditional offers of employment within two weeks after interviews.
Our department is excited about this infusion of new personnel. We have worked very hard to identify high character, motivated, passionate people who are interested in more than a job, they want a law enforcement career and take pride in performing at a high level.
If you are currently a certified Police Officer and considering making a change, the Waterford Police can offer you an attractive employment package with competitive wages and attractive benefits. We also offer plenty of opportunity for special assignments, as well as advancement and promotion, in an environment that promotes a positive culture.
Once again, we expect this process to move quickly, so don’t miss out. For information, or to apply, visit www.waterfordmi.gov and click job openings or call Human Resources at 248-674-6252.
Sincerely,
Scott Underwood
Chief of Police
