Berkley Parks & Recreation Receives $5,000 Donation from Local Ice Cream Shop for Inclusive Park Fundraiser

1000money

Berkley Parks & Recreation would like to convey its deepest gratitude to local ice cream and yogurt shop, Clark’s Ice Cream for the generous donation of $5,000 toward the Jaycee Park Development: If We Build It, They Will PLAY! Fundraiser.

This fundraiser has been a long-standing city initiative with the purpose of developing a multi-generational gathering space and a vision to build an inclusive playground at Jaycee Park with updates to the pathways, a new playscape, and to increase the accessibility and use of the park.

Inclusive play goes beyond the required ADA accessibility requirements to create play experiences that meet a variety of needs and interests. These environments are sensory-rich and enable children to develop physically, socially, and emotionally. Inclusive playgrounds also allow adults of varying ages and abilities to actively engage with children in their care.

If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $50,000 by May 9, the project will win a matching grant with funds made possible by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) Public Spaces Community Places program. Note: All proceeds will be donated to the project even if the city does not reach the matching grant requirements. For project details and to donate, please visit: patronicity.com/jayceepark.

Public Spaces Community Places is a collaborative effort of the MEDC, the Michigan Municipal League, and Patronicity, in which local residents can use crowdfunding to be part of the development of strategic projects in their communities and be backed with a matching grant from MEDC.
