Crain's Detroit Business named Oakland County's first ever Environmental Sustainability Officer, Erin Quetell, among its 2022 "Notable Leaders in Sustainability."
Crain's announced the 41 recipients March 21, after a team of the publication's editors considered the nominees' career accomplishments, record of success, and effectiveness.
Crain's recognized Quetell's efforts to develop a plan to inventory greenhouse gas emissions, create an electric vehicle and alternative energy fleet-management policy, and develop a climate action plan for Oakland County. These efforts are helping the county government campus reach carbon neutrality by 2030.
Quetell joined Oakland County in October 2021 after serving as the environmental sustainability planner for the City of Ferndale for four years.
"Hiring Erin, who played such a pivotal role in Ferndale, shows that Oakland County is committed to ensuring a safe, healthy and clean environment for our residents, businesses and visitors to enjoy for generations to come," Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter said.
During her time at Ferndale, the city initiated a full LED streetlight conversion, a stormwater infrastructure vulnerability assessment, a downtown waste management plan, a greenhouse gas emission inventory, and more. Crain's also recognized her work in helping Ferndale install a solar carport for the police department, initiate the transition to non-combustion fleet vehicles and develop a revolving energy fund.
