A Lawrence Technological University degree is worth more than $1.1 million in dollars over the lifetime of a career, according to a new national analysis of the value of a college education developed by the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce.
The analysis shows the value of an LTU degree increases over time, benchmarking 20, 30, and 40 year periods in an LTU alum’s career. LTU’s 40-year net present value ranks in the top 6 percent of all colleges and universities across the country at No. 260. Earning more than a million dollars over the course of a 40-year career places Lawrence Tech No. 4 among 118 ranked institutions in the state of Michigan. (The survey includes 4-year colleges and universities, community colleges, and specialty and trade schools in everything from barbering to Bible study.)
Georgetown’s analysis uses federal data on each school’s net price (the actual cost to attend after grants and scholarships), the median debt of graduates, and the median earnings of graduates at several periods after graduation. Georgetown then generates an estimate of the future value of attending a given school, expressed in today’s dollars. This is known as “net present value.” The study calculated the “net present value” of a degree from more than 4,500 colleges and universities nationwide over various time periods after graduation.
