Oakland County issued the following announcement on Jan. 27.
Donelson Hills Elementary School in Waterford will host an Oakland County Health Division school-based COVID-19 vaccine clinic from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Pediatric, first, second, third, and booster doses will be available. To schedule an appointment, go to www.OaklandCountyVaccine.com or contact the Nurse on Call at 800-848-5533.
The number of Oakland County residents who have received at least their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has surpassed 900,000. There are still about 288,000 Oakland County residents, however, who remain unvaccinated, with a little more than 100,000 being between the ages of five and 19 years old.
Meanwhile, new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in Oakland County dropped 27 percent to about 23,900 from Jan. 10-23, 9,000 fewer cases than the previous week's report. The seven-day percent positivity rate for COVID tests also nudged down 1.76 points to 31.0 percent. Despite the fall in case numbers and test positivity, transmission of COVID-19 remains significantly higher than all previous surges. Oakland County's seven-day confirmed case average was at 1,700 new cases per day as of Jan. 24.
Vaccinations along with masking, social distancing, and remaining at home when symptomatic remain the most effective ways to limit the spread of the virus and minimize severe illness.
The Health Division administers all doses of COVID-19 vaccine at its North Oakland Health Center in Pontiac, South Oakland Health Center in Southfield, and other community clinics. It also offers drive-through testing for COVID-19 four days a week. To make an appointment for a drive-through test or for more information, go to oakgov.com/COVID and click on the COVID Testing button or contact the Nurse on Call.
