City of Clawson issued the following announcement on July 28.
Over this past weekend, areas in Southeast Michigan were hit with tornadoes, high winds, and rainfall that caused major damage. Clawson received approximately 1.5–3 inches of rainfall between the hours of 8 pm and 9:30 pm. There were reports of street flooding throughout the city – most of which cleared in a couple of hours.
This weekend’s rain event was highly intense and we are aware of some residential impacts with flooded basements. We are currently collecting data to provide a full assessment. City Council has set a special meeting on Thursday, July 29th at 7 p.m. to discuss what happened and to review processes with the Department of Public Works, Oakland County representatives, and City Administration.
Department of Public Works staff went out to evaluate the roads this weekend after the storm passed and have been assessing the system this week. The Fire and Police Departments responded to a few miscellaneous calls that came in that weekend. Luckily, we did not lose power or have any tornado damage like some other communities.
