According to Click on Detroit, it is now a requirement for Michigan residents to wear masks in public places, such as the grocery store.
However, this order only applies to people who can medically tolerate wearing a face mask. The requirement was established under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s revised stay-at-home executive order.
The previous executive order stressed that residents should wear face coverings in public places to slow the spread of COVID-19. Now employers are required to provide non-medical-grade masks to all of their workers.
The latest mask executive order comes with an extended stay-at-home order that has loosened restrictions on some businesses. The latest stay-at-home order has been extended to June 12, according to The Detroit Free Press.
"Michigan’s COVID-19 experience was tougher than just about any other state,” Whitmer told Click on Detroit.
Whitmer says some businesses connected to outdoor activities, such as golf and motorized boating, can be reopened. The latest executive order enables companies like landscapers, lawn services, plant nurseries and bike repair shops to open as well. However, the companies that decide to open are subject to social-distancing rules.
Whitmer told Click on Detroit that businesses selling nonessential supplies can reopen, as long as it is for curbside pickup and delivery. Residents who own multiple homes in the state can resume traveling between them, though the governor strongly discouraged this.
Whitmer added that the majority of the residents of Michigan are "doing the right thing." She says she is looking forward to seeing how the reopenings go.
“The vast majority of people in this state are doing the right things. We’ve seen the curve get pushed down,” Whitmer told The Associated Press. “I think it’s appropriate to reevaluate along the way. At this point, we feel like it’s good to have our first wave of re-engagement in this way.”
