Safety Technology International, Inc. has been deemed an essential business meaning it will remain open during Michigan’s stay-at-home order.
The Waterford-based fire, safety and security products manufacturer had previously announced, upon learning of the stay-at-home, that it would close for three weeks.
“We are allowed to maintain minimum basic operations with a focus on [the] production of [an] essential product,” STI said in a news release, Facility Executive reported in late March. “We apologize for any confusion. Please be assured that while STI is open, we are taking the health and well-being of our employees, community, and customers seriously, and are monitoring the rapidly changing effects of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.”
Among the precautionary measures STI enacted, include having its production staff work 12-feet apart and urging personnel to work remotely is possible.
Michigan’s "Stay Home, Stay Safe" order requires businesses to temporarily suspend in-person operations that aren’t needed to sustain or protect life.
