Oakland Schools issued the following announcement on March 11
Forty-eight local students representing 21 different projects competed against each other for prizes and bragging rights in the first Oakland Schools Game and Invention Challenge.
The event, held on March 7 at Oakland Schools Main Campus, is designed to inspire local students to use creativity, critical thinking and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) skills to develop games, inventions or solutions to real-world problems.
The projects were judged in a variety of categories:
- Best Invention - Awards were given to the highest scoring inventions at the middle and high school levels. The winning inventions received a $1,000 cash prize.

- School: Larson Middle School (Troy)
