Rep. Andrea Schroeder (R-Independence Township) was among the Michigan State House members who recently signed a budget plan that approved the reversal of budget vetoes by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and restore funding for autism programs, law enforcement and education.
The funding cuts were part of a 147 line-item veto by Whitmer in October as part of her campaign promise to veto any bill that did not include funding for roads.
"We have a moral obligation to help families facing the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s and dementia – particularly as our population ages,” Schroeder said in a statement. "We must send the message that people in desperate need of health care must never be used as pawns in a political fight, and my vote sends that message.”
Among the budget proposal refunding is $400,000 for dementia patient care and $1 million for the state's Autism Navigator program as well as $350,000 for an autism intervention program and $13 million for sheriffs to hire patrols for secondary roads.
