Waterford Area Chamber Of Commerce issued the following announcement on Sept. 12.
This week is suicide prevention and awareness week. But this cause is important year round. Here's your opportunity to become proactive in supporting mental health. The Waterford Coalition for Youth, in partnership with the Oakland County Suicide Prevention Task Force and McLaren Oakland are presenting safeTALK Suicide Prevention Training at the Waterford Township Library on Thursday, November 7 from 5-8 pm.
safeTALK is a training that prepares anyone over the age of 15 to become a suicide-alert helper. safeTalk-trained helpers learn to recognize verbal and nonverbal signs from people with thoughts of suicide and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources. Dinner is being provided by McLaren Oakland. Don’t miss this invaluable opportunity to become a mental health advocate and register by calling the coalition at 248-618-7424 or email hhalls@waterfordmi.gov The event is free and open to the public.
