City of Southfield issued the following announcement on Oct. 1.

The City of Southfield Parks & Recreation Department together with the Southfield Public Library, Southfield Police Department, Southfield Fire Department and SafeSplash Swim School will present Book & Boo at Bedford Woods Park located on Lathrup Drive north of Twelve Mile Road (just east of Southfield Road).

Children ages 2-10 and their families are invited to meet characters from a popular Halloween story while safely trick-or-treating along a decorated trail. At the end of the path, the first 200 children will also receive a pumpkin to take home. Participants are encouraged to come in costume; however, this is an all outdoor event so please dress accordingly. There are five 30-minute time slots available for families to choose from (1-1:30 p.m.; 1:45-2:15 p.m.; 2:30-3 p.m.; 3:15-3:45 p.m. or 4-4:30 p.m.) on a first-come, first-served basis. Each time slot will be limited to 100 total participants (children and adults).

Tickets are $5 per person for Southfield residents and $10 per person for non-residents. One adult must be present per family for this event and each person attending must purchase a ticket. There are three convenient ways to purchase tickets:

  • In-person at the Parks & Recreation Information Window located inside the Southfield Pavilion at 26000 Evergreen Road. Open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

This is an all outdoor event. Participants must stay with their group and remain six feet from others at all times. No indoor restroom facilities will be available; however, porta-potties and hand sanitizing stations will be onsite. For more information, call the Parks and Recreation Department at (248) 796-4620.
